How can you discern a mild to moderate allergic reaction from a truly life-threatening emergency? Delays in administering epinephrine can be deadly, yet decades of evidence show that providers often are hesitant to administer epinephrine, preferring instead to initiate care with diphenhydramine. We’ll examine several real-world cases of anaphylactic emergencies to understand when to get aggressive in administering epinephrine and the consequences of delay. The presentation is visually engaging, making use of videos and pictures where possible to tell the story. They would be appropriate for all levels of EMS provider.
