EMS providers rely upon the coagulation cascade to form clot following damage to a blood vessel. Anticoagulants, in prescribed, OTC and herbal forms, can interfere with normal clotting mechanisms causing continued bleeding. Understanding the coagulation cascade, anticoagulants, hemostatic agents and DIC can improve care of your patients.
